John Wentworth Nason, 78 died unexpectedly on March 13, 2024 in South Berwick, Maine. He was born in York, Maine and was predeceased by his parents Kenneth Wentworth Nason and Una Mary Nason. John lived most of his life in York, Maine, known as the wood guy on the corner of Long Sands Road selling firewood which he split himself and picnic tables contributed by a friend. In 2017 health concerns led him to move to Berwick Estates.
John was a longtime friend and supporter of the York Fire Departments. He befriended the firefighters and fancied himself a Chief. He rarely missed a Firemen’s Muster or Parade, and in his younger days attended the yearly Conventions around the state. His favorite place to be was seated inside a fire truck participating in the events.
Johnny, affectionately referred to by his friends, also was fascinated with big machinery. If there was a construction site within a five-mile radius, he would be there observing. Johnny’s mode of transportation was his bicycle which he would ride for miles each day visiting all his favorite spots. On Fridays, every week, he would ride his bike to the York House of Pizza for his favorite pepperoni pizza.
He was also an avid University of Maine Football and Hockey fan. His passion was collecting t shirts and sweatshirts from Fire Stations, U Maine and construction companies all over New England. Johnny will be sincerely missed by his friends.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to York Village Fire Department or York Beach Fire Department.
